I have had the unique opportunity to begin my career in the lab (Hope College), branch out to conduct large scale field projects (UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Auckland) and continue to grow as a researcher by learning to utilise and adapt earth system models (SERC, ORNL).

I am broadly interested in developing interdisciplinary approaches to understand coastal ecosystem responses to human-induced shifts in environmental conditions by combining laboratory, field, and modelling techniques.

The current focus of my research involves integrating field data and modelling frameworks to simulate coastal ecosystems.  Once created, we can use these models to determine the interacting effects of sea level rise, elevated CO2 and warming temperatures on ecosystem function. In particular, I hope to use these models to investigate the impacts on biogeochemistry, ecology, and the interactions/connectivity between them.
